Informatics and Transmitter

  • Tasks

    Swiss Armed Forces members in the functions in the area of informatics and transmission are responsible for the maintenance of the communication systems in the area of operations as well as the connection between Kosovo and Switzerland. Furthermore, they are in charge of supporting all communication components and IT equipment for the benefit of the contingent. Additionally, these functions operate a national radio network with multiple relay stations so to remain independent from the civilian means and ensure communication between the members of the contingent. This department is also responsible for the command support Movement Control (MOVCON), which tracks the movements of the Swiss national elements in the area of operation and is also responsible for processing emergency dispatch communication. Moreover, Armed Forces personnel with specific technical knowledge in the area of IT assist humanitarian demining in various areas of operation. This function supports the management of the information data bank of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).

      SWISSCOY in Kosovo is the Swiss Armed Forces largest peace support operation to date. 215 men and women undertake a wide variety of functions in support of Kosovo Force (KFOR).

      Swiss specialists support the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) Programme in humanitarian demining.

    • From application to assignment abroad

      Interested women and men can apply to the SWISSINT Competence Centre for a peace-promoting mission abroad within the framework of the Swiss Armed Forces. We are looking for experts from a wide variety of professions. The basic requirements differ depending on the mission and type of operation.
